Veneers Q & A
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped shells that are permanently affixed to the front-facing portion of your teeth. They’re made of porcelain, so they look just like your natural teeth, but are designed to be a size, shape, and color that best compliments and enhances your appearance.
By covering up the entire visible portion of your teeth, veneers effectively mask cosmetic defects and instantly upgrade your smile. Because they’re permanently sealed in place, veneers feel just as natural as they look!
What conditions do veneers treat?
Veneers are mainly used to treat minor cosmetic imperfections, like:
- Cracked, chipped, or worn teeth
- Discolored teeth that haven’t responded to whitening treatments
- Teeth that are crooked, misshapen, or widely spaced
Veneers are also occasionally used for non-cosmetic purposes, such as reinforcing a cracked tooth to prevent it from further damage.
What are the benefits of veneers?
Like any restorative procedure, veneers improve the aesthetic appearance of your teeth and give you the smile you’ve always wanted, which can have incredible effects on your confidence and self-esteem.
Compared to other restorative procedures, veneers are especially popular because of how minimally invasive the procedure is. They don’t require Dr. Parish to shave off as much enamel as he has to with crowns and bridges, and unlike dental implants, they don’t require extensive surgery to place.
They’re also more affordable than other restorations, giving you a beautifully enhanced smile with an overall easier procedure.
What’s involved in getting veneers?
The first step in getting veneers is a consultation with Dr. Parish. After discussing your cosmetic goals, Dr. Parish helps you choose a size, shape, and color for your veneers that best compliments and enhances your aesthetic features, like the shape of your face and the color of your hair and skin.
Next, Dr. Parish shaves a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth to make room for the veneers. The amount of enamel he removes is equivalent to the thickness of the veneers, which are very thin.
Once your teeth are prepared, he takes an impression that he sends to a lab, where your veneers are made to fit perfectly and comfortably in your smile. Dr. Parish fits you with temporary veneers while you wait the week or so that it takes for your permanent veneers to come back from the lab.
You come back to the office when your permanent veneers are ready. Dr. Parish switches out your temporary veneers for the permanent ones, checks to ensure that the fit and look are right, then permanently bonds them to your teeth.
You leave the office with a gorgeous new smile that you’ll be proud to share with the world.
